Last weekend, the Seattle/King County Health Clinic celebrated its 10th year of offering free dental, vision, and medical care to individuals who face barriers to accessing healthcare. Hosted at Seattle Center from April 24–27, 2025, this incredible event continues to be a powerful demonstration of community collaboration. Over 90 organizations volunteered time, resources, and expertise, including our very own Seattle IT team.
Seattle IT’s contribution spanned the entire spectrum of IT support—from setting up patient intake systems to configuring specialized medical technology. Here’s a breakdown of what our team accomplished this year:
- Provided and configured 30 desktops and 45 laptops, along with numerous barcode scanners, label makers, and other necessary accessories.
- Configured and tested document scanners, printers, and servers to support medical x-ray and dental machines in close collaboration with the clinic’s medical teams.
- Established temporary IT infrastructure, including Wi-Fi, data activation, and cabling, across three locations at Seattle Center (McCaw Hall, Exhibition Hall, and Cornish Playhouse).
- Supported multilingual communication through rolling video screens offering certified medical interpretation in hundreds of languages.
- Improved patient flow by providing technology to track patients throughout the clinic.
Additionally, Seattle’s Digital Equity team made a meaningful impact by staffing a community resource table. They shared information on low-cost internet programs and distributed flyers on online safety, responding to findings from our recent tech access study. Kudos to Jon Morrison Winters, Delia Burke, and Brenda Tate for their efforts on this initiative. “It was great to be able to share helpful information with so many people and such a diverse group of people,” said Winters. “It was also great to get to know the folks from Utility Discount Program, as we partner with them on affordability work.”
Special recognition goes to Stephen Burke, Seattle IT’s Clinic IT Subject Matter Expert and longtime advocate for this event. Stephen’s institutional knowledge and dedication have been pivotal to the clinic’s success since its inception. “I tell people this is the most important part of my job, the clinic, and it’s the most enjoyable too,” said Burke. Joining Stephen in this incredible effort were Edward McClain, who served as Clinic Technical IT Lead, along with support from Geramy Wong, Shawn Shelton, Michael Ford, and Robert Clark.
Planning began a whopping 10 months prior, with additional prep work two months ago, culminating in an intensive two-day setup process before clinic week to ensure flawless operations once volunteers arrived for testing and training.
The success of this event reflects the strength and commitment of the entire Seattle IT team. Together, Seattle IT helped to make it possible for the Seattle/King County Clinic to provide essential care to over 30,000 patients since 2014, saving them more than $26 million in out-of-pocket medical expenses. This work not only showcases the power of teamwork but also underscores the City’s collective impact in empowering our community.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this effort. Your dedication, expertise, and passion for helping others truly embody the mission of Seattle IT.
