Attend the last grant workshop tomorrow before the May 13 deadline

Our Digital Equity team will hold the final Digital Equity Grant funding workshop tomorrow, Tuesday, April 19 at 5:30 p.m. The workshop is not required but will help potential grant applicants learn how to navigate the submission process. Attendees will also have a chance to ask questions and learn about the Technology Matching Fund and Digital Equity Cohort grant requirements. You can join tomorrow’s workshop remotely here.

May 13 is the last day to apply for a grant to help fund community projects that close the digital divide. Grants will be awarded of up to $25,000 for qualifying non-profit organizations in Seattle. Projects will have to be completed within one year or less and applicants must match at least 25% of their funding request with cash, time, or other contributions. The new Digital Navigator Cohort Grant program serves as the City’s response to the inequities brought about by the pandemic. Through community conversations, digital navigators emerged locally and nationally as trusted guides to assist in technology support and foundational digital skills.
If a project is seeking Technology Matching Funds, the project’s proposal should aim to increase internet access and adoption through:

  • Skills training by empowering residents through digital literacy skills training and support.
  • Devices and technical support by ensuring affordable, available, and sufficient devices and the support needed to use them effectively.
  • Connectivity by providing internet to low-income residents by expanding wi-fi or another means, and/or assisting with low-cost internet option awareness and enrollment support

If an applicant seeks out a Digital Navigator Cohort Grant, it should aim to increase internet access and adoption by providing one-on-one or small group, just-in-time assistance via phone service, email, text, video chat, and other communication methods. Digital navigators will provide on-demand services in the following areas:

  • Accessing and using devices and the internet
  • Basic digital navigation assistance
  • Troubleshooting technology issues
