GIS Day is an annual event celebrating the technology of geographic information systems (GIS) that was initiated by spatial analytics world-leader Esri. For almost 20 years, GIS Day has been a day of gatherings and celebration of the important work done by the GIS community globally. GIS Day is dedicated to showing, teaching, and inspiring others to use GIS technology towards a better world.

GIS technologies and data are used across the City of Seattle to accomplish dozens of critical functions. In honor of GIS Day, Seattle IT would like to highlight our Storm Response Map located on the city’s Winter Weather Response page. With winter just around the corner, City of Seattle GIS has got you covered.

Get real time information on road closures, bridge temperatures and the streets that snow plows have cleared. This is just the tip of the iceberg. For every public-facing map, there are internally-facing tools built with GIS to assist City staff to coordinate work and deliver vital services

Also from Seattle’s GIS team, the Online Water Outage Map.
